Dr Meinir Jones
Meinir Jones completed her PhD in immunology with Dr Frank Hay and Professor Ivan Roitt (FRS) at the Middlesex Hospital, London in 1982 working on autoimmunity. For several years she continued her work on autoimmunity at Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Middlesex Hospital and St George's Hospital Medical School, before moving to SmithKline Beecham to work on infection and immunity. In 1995 she joined the group of Professor Sir Anthony Newman Taylor working on occupational asthma and allergy at the National Heart and Lung Institute, now part of Imperial College London.
Dr Jones' current research interests are in understanding why some individuals develop occupational asthma and allergy whereas others remain healthy within the same working environment. In addition to her research she heads up the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Laboratory Service which is the only laboratory within the UK to provide a specialist service for occupational lung disease. The laboratory has gained ISO9001:2008 accreditation.
She provides training and advice to the occupational health community and is a member of British Special Interest Group in Occupational Disease and American Academy of Asthma Allergy and Clinical Immunology - Occupational Disease Committee. She gained her Chartered Management Institute - Level 4 Diploma in Management in 2004.
Dr Jones has a keen interest in teaching at Imperial College including coordinator of module 2 (mediators and the lung) in the NHLI-run BSc in Respiratory Medicine and personal tutor to medical students. She completed her Certificate of Advanced Studies in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (CASLAT), Imperial College London, 2007 and is a Fellow of the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.
