Dr Paul Edison
Dr Edison is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Centre of Neuroscience at Imperial College London. Dr Edison’s research has focused on neuroimaging using novel molecular probes and magnetic resonance techniques for the study of pathophysiological changes associated with Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementia. He has extensive experience in PET imaging in amyloid, neuroinflammation, glucose metabolism and other neurotransporters in neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory conditions. Combined with his clinical expertise in different types of degenerative diseases and dementia, he has investigated the relationship between amyloid deposition, microglial activation, and glucose metabolism using [11C]PIB, [11C]PK11195 and [18F]FDG PET. We were one of the first groups to demonstrate in vivo amyloid in Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. His work now focuses on the relative timing of amyloid and neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease using PET, and influence of this pathology on neuronal integrity. He is developing novel therapeutic strategies aimed at preventing the progression of the disease, and he is the chief investigator of large multicentre intervention studies. Recently, he was been awarded HEFCE senior lectureship, and MRC Clinical Fellowship. His work has received several international prizes.
