Neuroplasticity and Disease

Dr. Vincenzo De Paola is Honorary Group Leader at the 'MRC-Clinical Sciences Centre', a research institute funded by the Medical Research Council and based at Hammersmith Hospital, in west London. His group studies neural plasticity and its relevance to basic brain functions such as learning and memory. The team combines advanced behavioral, molecular genetic and neuroimaging approaches, including 2-Photon in vivo microscopy, to identify the molecular and cellular details which direct neural plasticity in the adult mammalian brain. This knowledge is ultimately important to understand what goes wrong in frequent brain disorders including mental illness, neurodegeneration and brain injury.
