Within the Faculty of Medicine I am the Vertical Theme Head for Ethics, Leadership and Professionalism for undergraduate medicine. The theme covers medical ethics and law, professionalism and leadership and management teaching in the undergraduate curriculum. These topics are covered in each year and the teaching aims to build on students' learning in successive years and integrate the topics with the rest of their clinical learning.

Last year we intoduced a new BSc module 'Death, Autopsy and the Law' which provides an opportunity for students to explore and analyse ethical and legal issues around death, dying and the dead body.

In May 2011 I was elected Chair of the Institute of Medical Ethics, a charitable organisation aimed at promoting the teaching, learning, discussion and application of medical ethics in clinical practice. The Institute provide grants for medical students to support electives, internships and intercalacted degrees in issues related to medical ethics and recenetly published a consensus statement on the core cotent of learning for medical ethics and law in the medical school curriculum.

I am also a Consultant Endocrinologist with a special interest in the Diabetic foot, working at Central Middleses Hosital, NWLH NHS Trust.
