Greek National Perinatal Survey
principal investigator
Professor Chryssa Bakoula, 1st department of Paediatrics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
11,000 people born in 1983 (all births in one month)
Detailed pregnancy (biological, clinical, social markers) and birth data including children’s neonatal hospitalizations are available. Follow-up on family circumstances, health and schooling at age 7 has been carried out.
During the EURO-BLCS study we plan to collect new clinical outcome data at age 17-18, including measures of social background, health including blood pressure, blood biochemistry, diet, fitness and physical activity and blood samples. The methods of data collection will be harmonised with the northern finland birth cohorts to allow data pooling and comparisons across populations. Data will be analysed to assess the relationship between maternal, fetal and social factors and intermediate cardiovascular disease risk factors, in particular blood pressure.
