How to become a GP teacher at Imperial College
Do you want to teach for one of the most prestigious medical schools in the UK?
If the answer is yes, we want to hear from you!
We have the skills to train you, can offset the cost to your practice and will guarantee that you'll find teaching with us satisfying and rewarding. With four courses taught in general practice we're also confident you'll find a level of commitment that suits you.
Undergraduate teaching is now increasingly done in the primary care setting. Teaching within GP practices is an integral part of our curriculum and spans the entire 5 year medical course. Teaching is an excellent way of contributing to medicine outside your role as a GP and enhances your appraisal. We are trying to increase our pool of teachers so why not join us?
We currently require teachers for the following courses:
How to get involved
If you would like to teach for us, the first step is to contact Kate Woodhouse at k.woodhouse@imperial.ac.uk
If you want to start teaching Clinical Methods Teaching (CMT) you will need to come on our one-day introductory course for new GP teachers, which we run three times a year.
The London Deanery runs a two day course called Introduction to Teaching in Primary Care. This popular course is a more in depth introduction to teaching, but is not a requirement for teaching at Imperial.
New practices for CMT or Year 5 teaching will also need to meet with their local academic facilitator.
