Research Themes
Patient Care
We improve patient care by leading innovative research into the assessment, and delivery of high quality healthcare and translating it into improvements in the NHS. The patient safety research undertaken by this department has produced the seminal work examining the frequency of adverse events in the NHS.
New Technologies
The research teams have developed strong relationships with, industry, government organisations, healthcare providers, and educational institutions to facilitate the translation of its research into practical applications and new innovative technology.
Assessment
The department runs numerous multi-disciplinary training courses and provides objective assessment of medical practitioners for a number of professional bodies and organisations. In December 2007, the Department was accredited as a Level 1 Education Institute by the American College of Surgeons.
